• When getting tattooed, ink particles are inserted into the dermis layer of the skin. Due to the ink particles size, the body’s immune system is unable to break these particles down naturally - this is why tattoos are permanent. Fading over time will occur

Laser tattoo removal works by breaking down these larger ink particles into smaller sizes in order for the white blood cells to attack the particles and flush them through the body's natural lymphatic system. During the procedure, the laser light is absorbed by the pigment granules, creating a shockwave effect. This effect is what breaks down the ink particles into small particles.

  • The big question on your mind will be - does it hurt? The feeling of laser treatment is similar to an elastic band flick. Luckily, with the use of local anesthetic creams, the pain of the procedure can be greatly reduced.

We will run you through the correct use of the creams before the treatment. We also use industry leading cooling machines during the treatment that greatly helps cool the area and reduces discomfort.

  • Multiple sessions are required in order to completely remove the tattoo ink from the skin.

The number of sessions depends on numerous factors, including placement of the tattoo, types and colours of inks used, age of the tattoo, size etc. We will work with you at the consultation stage to map out the number of sessions you’ll require.

The good news is that treatments are quick and safe! Sessions can be over in a matter of seconds / minutes depending on the size and complexity of the site.

  • We like to wait 8 weeks between sessions. This gives the skin enough time to adequately heal and fade out the first layer of ink before your next session.

  • An aftercare plan will be tailored to each client's needs and is a key factor to the successful removal or fading of your unwanted tattoo.

Eating a healthy diet and staying well hydrated will help the healing and fading of your tattoo greatly.

    We recommend the following aftercare:

Keep the area cool, free from friction, heat and bacteria during the healing stage

Refrain from hot showers, exercise or any activity that will heat your body up and make you sweaty

If you’d like, apply a cool compress over the first 24 hours - this can assist with any potential discomfort, bruising or swelling - all very normal after effects

Use an antibacterial or post laser cream twice daily for the first 2 weeks

Avoid any sun exposure and wear sunblock daily - Physically covering the are from the sun is preferred for 2 weeks

The treated area may feel like a sunburn and become itchy - do not scratch if this occurs. Use cool compresses to reduce these symptoms.

  • There are a number of factors that need to be considered before laser treatment. We will go over everything with you at the consultation and again on the day of treatment but below are some key factors to keep in mind.

    Sun exposure and fake tans

Ensure your skin is not tanned from UV exposure. If so, we will need to wait 4 weeks until your skin is back to its natural colour. Additionally, no fake tans are to be used on the skin during the laser treatments.

    Food and Water

On the day of your treatment, ensure that you are well hydrated and have eaten beforehand. The treatments are quick and over before you know but having a full stomach and being well hydrated will help reduce any feeling of dizziness.

    Pregnancy & Breast Feeding

Unfortunately, pregnancy and breast-feeding are contraindications and will not be able to treat you during these periods.

    Medications

If you are currently using Roaccutane or similar medications, you will need to wait until 6 months after completion before we can treat you. We will run through this with you and your Doctor if needed.
